Mountain Lake Forest Fire Dusk – Color Palette

Forest fire smoke has been present in the valley this week and the effect on colors creates an impression reminiscent of living in a vintage Kodak photo print.  I decided to explore this palette of colors.  It was a very peaceful scene. Hope you enjoy, too.

Flowers and Enjoyments

The beautiful flowers outside my door have been relocated… to the tummy of a deer who thought they were yummy.  Still, after initial disappointment it is nice to reflect that I’m sure their appearance was evidently beautiful for the deer, too, and I hope the deer enjoyed the beautiful taste of them.

Why do we so often feel our own enjoyments are more important than that of others?  The reality is, there are countless MORE enjoyments in the world if we also rejoice in the joys of others.

Talking Crows…

I wonder what they were saying to each other?

Maybe…

“You need to comb the feathers on the back of your head”
“Did you find anything good to eat in the grass?”
“Dad, can I go out with my friends later?  Pleeeese, I’ll be back by 9, I promise!”
Or, “Have I told you today that I LOVE YOU!”

Digital Tin Type Photographs

The following images are digital “tin types” I create from modern photographic images.  After studying a lot of vintage images and experimenting, I created a method to reliably reproduce this technique.  I carefully apply hand retouching and focus adjustments using a graphics tablet and pen, and a specific set of filter and layer treatments, customized for each image.  I can apply this treatment to images for personal or commercial use, such as advertising.

Some photographs lend themselves better than others to a successful conversion to a digital tin type, and composition is very important.  If you would like me to take a look at a photo you are considering for this treatment, please drop me an email and I will be happy to provide input and provide an estimate for converting your photo into a digital tin type.

Poppy Joy 1

Poppies are flowering.  SO HUGE and beautiful!  It is interesting to view them close-up.  So many different textures!  Purple velvet ridges on a smooth green base in the center, soft indigo frills, and a delicate insect wing-like feel to the floppy petals.

Vintage Style Photo Art

Digital photo retouching in Adobe Photoshop is a personal passion.  I have been using this program since it was very first launched on the market and have come to intimately know it’s strengths and capacities.  I LOVE helping clients get the very best out of their digital images, and also digitally retouch and restore photos for families and individuals.  To accomplish this work, I use a graphics tablet which provides a natural ‘pen on paper’ interface for working with the digital images.

Projects have included; digitally creating an artist’s impression of an architect’s building design, digital retouching of high-end advertising photography and digital illustration.

For my personal enjoyment, I have recently been exploring the application of vintage-style digital treatments to my photos, and creating large format art prints of the finished images.  Here are some examples for your vintage-style enjoyment.

Red-winged blackbird sings, ‘Aujourd’hui!’

Red-winged blackbird sings, ‘Aujourd’hui!’
Sunlight warms skin that gratefully touches air.

Clouds walk alongside in the surface of water,
Gently closing the window on the sky.

A breeze descends bearing a snowy chill,
The Springtime gift has been given and received.
